Means “to reach a point”. Used with verbs.

に気がつく means “to notice”, “to realize”.
Example
新しいレストランが開店に気がついた。 I noticed a new restaurant opened.
と思う

と思う means “to think”.

変だと思わないか。 Don’t you think it’s strange?
今日は公園に行くと思います。 I think I’ll go to the park today.
すぎる

Means “too much”, “exceeding”.
Example
昨晩に飲みすぎて頭が痛い。 I drank too much last night and my head hurts.
Try to
ようにする
Means “to try to”, “to make sure to”. It’s more of an assertion than ようとする. Used with a verb.
Example
毎日に朝ご飯を食べるようとします。 I’ll try to eat a breakfast everyday.
ようとする・ようとしない
Means “try to”, “attempt to” (or not, in the negative form). It’s more of an attempt than with ようにする. Used with the volitional form of verbs (よう).
Example
出かけようとした時、電話が鳴ってた。 At the time I was trying to go out, the phone rang.
さっき店に入ろうとしたらが、ドアが閉まってしまいました。 I tried to enter the shop earlier, but the door was closed…
彼は運動しようとしない。 He doesn’t try to exercise.
