Opposition
に反して
に反して means “contrary to”. Opposes the first noun to the rest of the sentence.
Example
常識に反して、彼は勉強しなかった。 Contrary to common sense, he did not study.
に対して
に対して. See In contrast to.
逆に
逆に means “on the contrary”. Means that it is the opposite of something else.
Example
人が大体ウサギが好き逆に彼は嫌い。 Most people like rabbits, but on the contrary he hates them.
かえって
Means “on the contrary”, “rather”. Used for bad results, contrary to what was expected.
Example
薬を飲んだら却って調子が悪くなった。 Despite drinking medicine, on the contrary my condition got worse.
反面

反面 means “on the other hand”, “however”. Has the same meaning as かえって. Also used between two phrases as その反面.
Example
スープはおいしい反面、ちょっと冷たい。 The soup is good but a bit cold.

一方で means “on the other hand”, “on another note”.
Example
その犬は大きい一方で、とても穏やかと親切です。 The dog is big, but on the other hand he is very calm and kind.
に関わらず
に関わらず means “regardless”, “no matter”.
Example
ここは年齢に関わらず、誰でも歓迎します。 Everyone is welcome here, regardless of age.
を問わず
を問わず means “regardless of”. Used with nouns.
Examples
年齢を問わず、誰でも歓迎する。 Everyone is welcome, regardless of age.
それなのに
Means “and yet”. Used to combine two sentences, appearing at the start of the second one.
Example
同僚が風邪をひいた。それなのに、事務所に行くつもりです。 My colleague has a cold. And yet, he plans to go to the office.
それにしても
Means “even so”, “nevertheless”.
Example
毎日頑張る、それにしてもまだ下手です。 I try my best every day, but I’m still not very good.
はともかく
Means “setting aside”, “apart from”. Can be completed by として. Used with nouns.
Example
この服は値段はともかく、完璧です。 These clothes are perfect, regardless of their price.
どころか

Means “far from”, “anything but”. Negates what comes before and emphases what comes after.
Examples
好きなどころか、事実は嫌いだった。 Far from liking it, truth is that I hated it.
どころではない
Means “not the time for”, “far from”, “out of the question”. Means that something is not ideal.
Examples
今は電車の中だから、歌うどころではない。 We’re on a train right now, so it’s not the time to sing.
